Lydia Stack, English Language Specialist, Understanding Language Project at Stanford University.

Lydia Stack is an English Language Specialist who provides classroom teachers professional development on ways to teach English to school age learners (K-12). In addition, she has worked with refugee children in the US and in refugee camps around the world. She has presented workshops on peace, tolerance, and understanding to teachers in many countries, most recently in Greece and Hungary.
For the last five years she has been involved with Understanding Language, a Stanford University Initiative to support English Learners in the regular classroom. The goal of this project is to provide teachers with approaches to enrich academic content and language instruction for immigrant and refugee English Learners (ELs) in grades K-12. She is a past president of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Her awards include the TESOL James E. Alatis Award and the San Francisco STAR Teacher Award.
